# Sourcing candidates

> Set up an outreach campaign, then source candidates one at a time, from a CSV, or from LinkedIn.

## Overview

Sourcing is how you find candidates yourself and email them from Dover. Open a job and click its **Sourcing** tab. The tab has two parts: **Campaigns**, where you write the outreach emails and follow-ups, and **Leads**, where the candidates you source appear. To keep in touch with people across all your jobs, see [CRM](https://docs.dover.com/sourcing-and-outreach/crm/).

## Set up an outreach campaign

A campaign defines who the email comes from, what it says, and any follow-ups. You need an active campaign to source a candidate.

### Connect your email

Campaigns send from a connected email account. If you see **To send campaigns, your email must be connected to Dover**, follow the link in the banner to connect it, or go to **Account settings → Email Connection**.

### Create a campaign

1. Open the job and click its **Sourcing** tab, then click **Campaigns**.
2. Click **+ Campaign**.
3. Enter a **Campaign Name**.
4. Under **Who will send outreach emails**, choose **Hiring manager** or **Someone else on my team**. If you choose a teammate, pick them from the list. The teammate must have connected their email in Dover.
5. Create the campaign, then click **Edit campaign** to write it.

### Edit a campaign

Click **Edit campaign** on a campaign to change its name, sender, subject, and email body. Click **+ Followup** to add a follow-up email that is sent when a candidate doesn't reply. You can turn follow-ups on or off and choose when each one is sent.

Use **Duplicate** to copy a campaign, or **Delete** to remove it. If a campaign has already sent messages, changing its sender affects any follow-ups that are still waiting to send.

### Turn a campaign on

In the **Campaigns** table, use the **Status** switch to turn a campaign on. A campaign must be active before you can source a candidate with it. The table also shows each campaign's **Title**, who **Started by** it, and its **Total contacted**.

## Source candidates

There are three ways to source. Each candidate you source is added to the job's **Leads** tab, and Dover sends them your campaign's emails.

### Source one candidate

1. On the **Campaigns** tab, find an active campaign and click **Source candidate**.
2. Choose **Single candidate**.
3. On **Candidate details**, enter the **First name** and **Last name**.
4. Answer **Do you have the candidate's email?**. Choose **Yes** and enter it, or choose **No (find it for me)** and enter the candidate's LinkedIn URL. Dover looks up an email address.
5. Click **Next** to open **Preview and send email**.
6. Edit the message if you want, and click **Send**.

### Source many candidates from a CSV

1. On the **Campaigns** tab, find an active campaign and click **Source candidate**.
2. Choose **Multiple candidates**.
3. Drag and drop your CSV file, or click to select it. Click **Download Sample CSV** if you need a template.
4. Dover checks the file and shows how many candidates are valid and any errors. Fix errors in your file and upload it again.
5. Click **Upload**, which shows how many candidates it will add.

Your CSV needs **First Name**, **Last Name**, and **Email**. **LinkedIn URL** is optional. Bulk uploads can take some time, depending on the file size, and you can't edit the message for each person.

### Source from LinkedIn

Use the Dover Sourcing Extension to source candidates directly from their LinkedIn profiles. See [Dover Sourcing Extension](https://docs.dover.com/sourcing-and-outreach/dover-sourcing-extension/).

## Review your leads

Click **Leads** on the **Sourcing** tab to see the candidates you have sourced for the job, laid out by stage. Click a candidate to open their profile.

To see how many candidates you sourced over time, click the chart icon (**View Sourcing Analytics**) next to the tabs. It opens the **Sourced Candidates Over Time** chart in Reporting & Analytics. See [Reporting & Analytics](https://docs.dover.com/getting-started/reporting-analytics/).

## Frequently asked questions

### Where do sourced candidates appear?

On the job's **Sourcing** tab, under **Leads**, and in the job's candidates list.

### What if I don't have a candidate's email address?

Add their LinkedIn URL and choose **No (find it for me)**. Dover looks for an email address. If it can't find one, it can't send the outreach, so reach the candidate another way.

### Can I edit the message before it's sent?

Yes, when you source one candidate, you can edit the message on **Preview and send email**. For a CSV upload, the message comes from the campaign.

### Why is the Source candidate button turned off?

The campaign must be on. Turn it on with the **Status** switch. If the button is still off, you may not have the Sourcing permission for the job. Point to the button to see who can give you access.

### How is this different from the CRM?

A job's campaign contacts new leads for that job. A [CRM](https://docs.dover.com/sourcing-and-outreach/crm/) campaign works on anyone in Dover and isn't tied to a job.

### Where can I see pricing and plan details?

Some sourcing options, such as bulk sourcing from a CSV and additional follow-ups, depend on your plan. See [dover.com/pricing](https://www.dover.com/pricing) for what each plan includes.
