Getting started with Marketplace
Unlock the Marketplace, find experts in recruiting, HR, legal, and more, and book free calls to find the right fit.
Overview
Section titled “Overview”The Dover Marketplace connects you with experts who work with startups. Click View Marketplace in the left sidebar to browse experts, unlock full access with a deposit, book free calls, and work with the experts you choose.
Experts you can find
Section titled “Experts you can find”Pick the kind of expert you need. Each expert type has its own list.

The first time you open the Marketplace, Dover asks What do you need help with?. Choose an expert type, and Dover opens that list. To switch later, click another expert type at the top of the page. Recruiting has extra tools, covered in Work with recruiters.
Unlock the Marketplace
Section titled “Unlock the Marketplace”You need a deposit to see and contact experts. Until you unlock access, you can browse a limited preview.
- Click View Marketplace in the left sidebar.
- When Dover shows Ready to view the experts?, click Unlock marketplace access.
- Add the deposit.
When you unlock access, you get instant access to every expert on the Marketplace, reviews from founders, and each recruiter’s cost-per-hire data. Your deposit is applied to the work your expert does. If you don’t work with an expert, your deposit is 100% refundable.
Talk to an expert
Section titled “Talk to an expert”Book as many free calls as you like before you choose.
- Click an expert to open their profile, or click Schedule now to open their calendar.
- Book a free call.
- On the call, talk about what you need and how you would work together.
You can book calls with several experts and compare them. Most companies talk to about four experts before choosing one.
Work with an expert
Section titled “Work with an expert”After a call, you and the expert agree on how to work together.
- Choose a pay structure: hourly, retainer, or pay-per-hire.
- Set a budget for the expert.
- Try more than one expert, keep the best fit, and switch to a different expert whenever you want.
Go to My Experts in the left sidebar to see your experts, make or review an offer, and manage an expert you work with. See Managing experts. Go to Usage & Billing to see activity and charges. See Marketplace usage and billing.
Work with recruiters
Section titled “Work with recruiters”The Recruiting expert type helps you find recruiters who have already made hires like yours. Under Who are you hiring?, describe the role in your own words, or pick one of your open jobs, and click Search. Dover shows recruiters who have made similar hires, and why they fit.
To see every hire made through the Marketplace and what it cost, click View all hires & costs. If you aren’t sure who to pick, click Share your criteria and recruiters send you custom offers. For the full steps and filters, see Finding experts.

Section titled “What if I don’t know which expert I need?”On your first visit, Dover asks What do you need help with?. Choose the closest expert type. You can switch to another expert type at any time.
