Job settings

Manage a job's hiring team and permissions, visibility, notifications, and actions like duplicating or deleting it, and change its status.

Each job has its own settings. Open the job and click the gear icon (Job Settings) in its header. The left side lists three pages:

Page What you do there
Permissions Choose the hiring team, change the job’s visibility, and set each member’s job permissions.
Notifications Choose which email and Slack notifications this job sends. See Notifications.
Actions Duplicate or delete the job.

Company-wide settings, such as members and billing, are under Settings in the left sidebar. See the Settings overview.

The hiring team is everyone who works on the job. Two roles are set separately, and every other member can be given any job permission set.

Role What it means
Hiring Manager Person who owns the job and hiring decisions. Required.
Recruiter The person running the process for the job.
Other members Anyone else on the job, such as interviewers. Choose a job permission set for each, such as Job Admin or Job Basic.

Adding someone as hiring manager or recruiter gives them Job Admin permissions. See Permissions for what each job permission allows.

You need the Manage hiring team job permission.

  1. Open the job and click the gear icon (Job Settings).
  2. On Permissions, find Hiring Team.
  3. Choose a Hiring Manager and a Recruiter.
  4. To add other members, click Add member, search by name or email, and choose their permissions.
  5. Confirm the change when Dover asks Update hiring team?.

The page lists every member under Member permissions. Select a member to change their permission set, or remove them. A member with Job Basic can submit feedback, but can’t see other interviewers’ feedback, the job’s compensation, or candidates in the offer and hire stages.

A job’s status is shown next to its title: Draft, Active, or Inactive. New jobs start as drafts. See Draft jobs. A job is active while you’re hiring for it. Deactivate it when you stop. You need the Edit job permission.

  1. Open the job and click Active next to the job title.
  2. Click Deactivate.
  3. Optionally, choose the candidates who should get an automated rejection email.
  4. Click Deactivate job, or Deactivate job and send rejection emails if you chose candidates.

Sending rejection emails requires your email account to be connected. See Emailing candidates. Deactivating removes the job’s posting from your careers page and from Dover-managed job boards. To reopen it, click Inactive next to the job title and click Activate.

Job Visibility controls who at your company can see the job.

  • Visible: everyone at your company can see the job.
  • Hidden: only admins and the people on the job’s hiring team can see it.

Turn the Job Visibility switch to change it. You need the Job visibility permission. Hidden is rarely used. It suits a job whose title is sensitive, and a hidden job can’t be published to your careers page or to job boards.

Choose which emails and Slack messages a job sends, such as interview reminders and daily applicant summaries. See Notifications and Slack integration.

Make a copy of a job with the same settings.

  1. Open the job and click the gear icon (Job Settings).
  2. Click Actions.
  3. Next to Duplicate Job, click Duplicate.

Delete a job only when you no longer need its data. To keep the data, deactivate the job instead.

  1. Open the job and click the gear icon (Job Settings).
  2. Click Actions.
  3. Next to Delete Job, click Delete Job.
  4. Confirm that you want to delete the job.

You need the Edit job permission to delete a job. If the button is unavailable, point to it to see who can give you access.

Why can’t I change the hiring team or a setting?

Section titled “Why can’t I change the hiring team or a setting?”

You’re missing the permission it needs: Manage hiring team for the team, Edit job for status and deleting, and Job visibility for visibility. Point to the control to see who can give you access, and click Request access if it’s shown.

What’s the difference between deactivating and deleting a job?

Section titled “What’s the difference between deactivating and deleting a job?”

Deactivating removes the posting but keeps all candidates and data, and you can reactivate the job later. Deleting permanently removes the job and everything in it.

Yes, with Manage hiring team. A job always needs a hiring manager, so choose a new one rather than leaving it empty.

Some job options, such as hidden jobs and duplicating a job, depend on your plan. See dover.com/pricing.
